Today we'd like to introduce you to Saren Schapiro, M.Sc., CCC-SLP.

Saren is the proud founder of SAGE Speech and Learning Associates. As a busy mom of 2, and a crusader for developmentally appropriate education, Saren identified the need in Atlanta for effective and practical speech language therapy.

She is a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist with experience in a wide variety of pediatric settings, including public schools, private schools, hospitals, and private clinics. Saren has both diagnostic and therapeutic experience treating a variety of Speech/Language challenges, including Articulation and Speech Sound Disorders, Language based learning disorders, Early Intervention approaches, Oral and Written Language impairments, Feeding and Oral Motor impairments, Apraxia of Speech, Auditory Processing and Autism Spectrum Disorders, Syndromes affecting speech/language skills, and pre-reading/Phonological Awareness skills.

Saren is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Communication Sciences and Disorders and received a Bachelor's of Science degree upon completion. She then earned a Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Saren currently holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and remains an active member of ASHA, as well as the Georgia Speech-Language Hearing Association (GSHA). She is the proud mommy of 2 incredible little girls, and knows first-hand the challenges of overcoming early developmental challenges.

Has it been a smooth road?

Building a private practice is never smooth! I opened my doors just 3 months after having my first child, and grew quickly through word of mouth. Balancing two babies, a private practice, hundreds of clients and life is downright bumpy! However, the joy and satisfaction of improving children's lives daily makes every struggle worth it.

My passion is helping pediatricians, teachers and parents understand what is truly developmentally appropriate based on research and brain development. The SAGE team often provides parent, teacher and doctor training sessions to help each child get the intervention they need in all the environments they live in.

So, as you know, we're impressed with SAGE Speech & Learning Associates - tell our readers more, for example what you're most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

SAGE Speech & Learning Associates specializes in bringing together families, therapists, physicians and evidence based interventions! Our practice is the only one in Atlanta with a team of Speech Pathologists who each specialize in an area of practice (e.g., feeding disorders, preschool age, Autism, academic related learning disorders, Apraxia, etc.). We are also set apart from the rest because we work closely with doctors, occupational and physical therapists, and schools to provide education, screening programs, and intervention at school, home or in clinic! Parents and caregivers are trained by our Speech Pathologists to carry over interventions on non-therapy days, making progress happen fast!

We also take a variety of insurances and Medicaid.

Our biggest news: Starting in June 2017 we have a certified therapy dog at SAGE Speech!

Let's touch on your thoughts about our city - what do you like the most and least?

The best thing about Atlanta is the variety of people and interests! Since our team often see's children in home or school, we spend lots of time traveling throughout Atlanta's neighborhoods and getting to know each area and its unique offerings!
