At SAGE Speech & Learning Associates our model is to offer more than simply speech therapy. As parents ourselves, we understand the frustration parents experience trying to determine what is best for their child. So often, when a child is struggling to succeed in a certain area, there may be multiple steps and practitioners from different disciplines involved to help the child meet their best potential. For example, how does a parent know whether to call a speech therapist or an occupational therapist or child psychologist when their child presents difficulty at feeding time? Another example: Is your child's language delay due to underlying medical issues or could they have a learning disorder?

Where does a parent start?

The answer to this question is: a parent starts by calling SAGE Speech & Learning Associates!

The SAGE Speech & Learning model is to seek out and understand the therapy practices throughout all of Metro Atlanta. Through team dinners, shared learning experiences, and even sharing clinic space, SAGE Speech & Learning collaborates with other professionals to ensure that each family gets the best help from the RIGHT person for their child.

The Founder of SAGE Speech & Learning, Saren Schapiro, is a trained Speech Language Pathologist. When a parent calls 404.245.7981 they will speak directly to Saren who can listen to their needs and help the concerned parent lay out an important strategy for their child. In some cases, a speech evaluation through SAGE Speech may be the right first step, but in many cases, Saren will guide the parents to seek evaluations and guidance from a child psychologist, an occupational therapist or even an audiologist.

If your child needs an evaluation by a child psychologist, often SAGE Speech recommends Dr. Avital Cohen of www.peachpsychology.com. Dr. Cohen proudly launched her new solo practice in Sandy Springs to provide more personalized service!

Learn more about Dr. Cohen in her own words:

I have always enjoyed working with children, adolescents, and their families. Currently, my primary focus is on the assessment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), as well as other common problems in the pediatric population, including developmental delays, learning problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), emotional disorders, behavioral issues, and more. Another area I am passionate about is identifying gifted students, as well as determining supportive services for individuals who are twice exceptional. I am also able to provide a variety of treatment planning/care coordination services, but do not currently offer therapy services. In addition to my work with children and families, I also offer assessment and treatment planning services for adults on the autism spectrum and with other developmental concerns. I am well versed in Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver and NOW/COMP waiver requirements for evaluation and understand the short time frames in which these evaluations often must be completed. I began my career as a psychologist serving in the US Army. In support of my fellow soldiers, I deployed to Iraq to provide psychological services. My military experience helped me develop specialized skills for assessing and treating trauma concerns, which has helped me become a thorough and detailed diagnostician.
