The SAGE Speech & Learning team is trained in a variety of pediatric interventions, including Dir/Floortime, PROMPT, Lindamood Bell, Orton-Gillingham, etc.  

When a child is struggling with a communication, feeding or sensory impairment, teachers are on the forefront of identification and intervention.  Difficulty with just one child in the classroom can impact the classroom environment and teacher satisfaction.  The goal of the SAGE Speech & Learning team is to provide knowledge, as well as practical tips and tricks to help teachers who are struggling to maximize their classroom success and the impact they can have on each student.  

What does a communication disorder look like in the classroom?  A communication disorder may present itself as; difficulty following multi-step directions, quickly processing information, coming up with the right word or using new vocabulary.  It can also present as difficulty being understood when talking, trouble reading social cues, excessive energy/wiggling during quiet or focused activities.

Saren Schapiro, M.Sc., CCC-SLP is the proud founder of SAGE Speech & Learning Associates and SAGE Facilitators. She is a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist with experience in a wide variety of pediatric settings. She started her career with Gwinnett County Public Schools providing services to children in classrooms ranging from severe-profound impairments to mainstream settings. She continued her experiences working in a multidisciplinary private practice which included Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Therapy, and language focused computer programming, as well as working for other private practices specializing in providing Speech-Language Therapy within clients' most natural environments (home & school). Saren has both diagnostic and therapeutic experience treating a variety of Speech/Language challenges, including Articulation and Speech Sound Disorders, Language based learning disorders, Early Intervention approaches, Oral and Written Language impairments, Feeding and Oral Motor impairments, Apraxia of Speech, Auditory Processing and Autism Spectrum Disorders, Syndromes affecting speech/language skills, and pre-reading/Phonological Awareness skills. 

Saren is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Communication Sciences and Disorders and received a Bachelors of Science degree upon completion. She then earned a Masters degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Saren currently holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and remains an active member of ASHA, as well as the Georgia Speech-Language Hearing Association (GSHA). She is the proud mommy of 2 incredible little girls, and knows first-hand the significance of overcoming early developmental challenges.
