SAGE Speech & Learning Associates was born when Saren Schapiro, nationally certified speech language pathologist and founding SLP, realized the need for quality, reliable, in-home or in-school pediatric speech therapy. Saren has worked in both public and private schools, clinic and home-based environments. During her 10 years of experience, she came to understand that while speech therapy provided in a clinic setting has its own benefits, the home environment or school environment provided the best real-life setting for a child to learn quickly and thrive in therapy. Her vision of working closely with parents and caregivers, to ensure accurate training and carryover, has become a reality over the last 6 years.
A notable client for Saren was "Katie", age 5. Katie was a smart and energetic child, who was struggling with both her speech sounds and her early academic skills. Katie's parents diligently brought her into the speech clinic every week, but progress was slow to carryover. Saren began home visits, twice weekly, with intensive parent training. Quickly, Katie was able to master her difficult speech sounds, without requiring cues and reminders from her parents! In addition, Saren was able to spend the time getting to know Katie and her early academic development, leading to appropriate referral for a psycho-educational assessment in which Katie was diagnosed with Dyslexia. Katie was finally provided the correct intervention for her needs and blossomed into an articulate little girl with a love of reading!

The SAGE Speech team is comprised of 10 Speech-Language Pathologist, as well as a few highly regarded pediatric specialists. Each Speech Pathologist is nationally certified and licensed, holding the highest of certifications, the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (asha.org). In addition, many of our SLP's specialize in an area of the field, including Feeding/Swallowing, Autism and other Developmental Delays, Apraxia of Speech & Motor Speech Disorders, Language based learning differences, Articulation and language delays, and many more!
